What if you could see without contacts or glasses anymore? Ocumetics Technology hopes to one day have you ponder that question. That day may be sooner than you think if Ocumetics Technology is successful with its Bionic Lens trials. The futuristic device would be implanted into the eye. In doing so it would replace your natural lens thus giving you perfect vision.

The Bionic Lens may look like a super small contact lens but it would have a very big impact. To get the device in your eye takes only an eight-minute surgery. Just like Lasik patient’s sight would be corrected instantly. The device was developed by Dr. Garth Webb. Webb and his team have been worked on the technology for eight years. So far the cost of research and development has come to about $3 million.

“This is vision enhancement that the world has never seen before. If you can just barely see the clock at 10 feet, when you get the Bionic Lens you can see the clock at 30 feet away.” ~Dr. Garth Webb

bioeyesNow the bad news, the Bionic Lens still requires a lot more testing before hitting the open market. After trials on animals it will move on to blind humans willing to give it a try. It would be really cool if Apple or Google supported this project. Maybe someone could create an Apple Watch app for augmented reality feedback of your environment. Think Oculus Rift without all the heavy gear. Google could even have search results directly on your eye. Realtime Twitter feed or Facebook feed. Ok..Maybe thats a little too cyborg. We can expect to see the Bionic Lens in 2017.
