A9

Apple has also acknowledged that there is indeed a difference between TSMC and Samsung’s A9 chip, though it insists that the variation is minimal.

Seems every new iPhone has some kind of defect that has the haters ready to bash it with their pitchforks. Last year was BendGate, this year it seems to be BatteryGate. A 2% to 3% deference in battery life between the different A9 chips in the iPhone 6s. So difference in battery life between Samsung and TSMC’s A9 chip is minor but since we are talking about the Apple and the iPhone it is getting major attention. You should not be worried but if you are, it is pretty easy to identify if your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus has a TSMC or Samsung A9 chip.

You don’t need to be jailbroken or use some overseas website. It’s easier than that. To find out if you have the “good” A9 chip is inside your iPhone 6s all you have to do is down load a free app. We even have step by step instructions. Follow the instructions below. You are looking for the “m” in the Model name. The “m” is the good TSMC chip.

  1. Download Battery Memory System Status Monitor from the App Store and Start it up.
  2. Click System
  3. The model name will tell you whether you have a TSMC or Samsung A9 chip inside your iPhone. Here’s the legend:
  4. N66mAP and N71mAP are A9 chips manufactured by TSMC.
  5. N66AP and N71AP are A9 chip manufactured by Samsunga9chip

  1. I am going to buy an iPhone 6s soon. Is there any way to know when I buy the phone if it has the Samsung chip or not?

    1. There’s no way to tell if you’re getting a Samsung A9 processor when you purchase your iPhone 6s in stores or online. However, Apple has a 14 day return policy. So, follow out instructions when you take the phone home or even in the parking lot. If your phone has the bad Samsung chip. Go in and return it.
