This is kind of strange.  If you’ve logged in to play Fortnite on your PS4, then you won’t be able to play it on your Nintendo Switch.  That’s weird, right?  Unfortunately, Fortnite requires you to log into an Epic Games account.  If you’ve already connected that account to a PSN ID, you will get the following message when you attempt to boot it up on your Switch:

This Fortnite account is associated with a platform which does not allow it to operate on Switch. Neither the Fortnite website nor Epic Customer Service are able to change this. To play Fortnite on Switch, please create a new account.

Hundreds of Fortnite fans are reacting angrily to this, and you can’t really blame them.  Not being able to play between platforms means that any progress, skins or purchases that you make can’t be shared between the two platforms.  Further, this kills the idea of playing Fortnite at home on your PS4 and then taking it with you somewhere else to continue playing it on your Nintendo Switch.

Many people are lashing out and leaving Sony some pretty nasty messages via Restera and Reddit.  But there are some users who are trying to appeal to Sony in order to get them to change their mind.  Some users are even threatening to move from the PS4 platform over to Xbox, but it’s hard to tell if they’re joking or not.

Like I said earlier, you can’t blame people for being angry about this situation.  It’s set up in a way that doesn’t help the consumer.  Not only that, but it suggests that Sony has dominated the market when that’s not entirely true.  Sony is selling a lot of PS4 consoles, and they see it as a result of Fortnite.  Therefore, they are taking advantage of this right now, but that won’t last for long.  It should be mentioned that this isn’t the first time that Sony has done something like this.  Back in March, it was discovered that Sony was blocking cross-play between PS4 and the Xbox One.  They’ve also done this for other platforms and other games in the past.

Sony says the reason that they blocked PlayStation and Xbox cross-platform play has kind of been stupid.  Sony has said in the past that they have a responsibility to look after their users. Which, apparently means that they are going to cut off all users from being able to enjoy their favorite games.  That said, Sony isn’t commenting on the reasons behind this particular Fortnite block.

This whole thing is a bit funny if you ask me.  Sony claims to be the company that is “for the players” and yet, they’re not giving the players what they want.  That said, I also get why they want to block your ability to play on other platforms.  Unfortunately, though, by doing so, they are taking that “for the players” idea and throwing it in the garbage.  If the players want to have cross-platform play, they should be allowed to have that.  All they want to do is play it at home on the PS4, and then take it on the bus with them as they’re heading into work.  Is that so much to ask?
