Holographic Augmented Reality Navigation System

Technology

This past week at CES, Hyundai, in collaboration with WayRay AG, introduced the world to its first Holographic Augmented Reality Navigation System. This is a type of technology that puts stereoscopic guidance icons and navigational alerts on the roadway right in front of you. The goal of the technology is to provide drivers with “navigational and ADAS features to enhance their driving experiences by projecting information like vehicle speed and navigational alerts holographically into the glass. This sounds a bit trippy, but it might be great technology in a few years.

Sports

For the first time, the NHL has tested real-time puck and player tracking during regular season games and they intend to have it in place across the league next seasons. Microchips have been added to players’ shoulder pads and fitted inside specially designed pucks for two Vegas Golden Knights home games against the New York Rangers and San Jose Sharks this week. Antennas around the arena tracked the players and the puck through radio frequencies and relayed the data to a suite where league and NHLPA executives and representatives from 20 teams, various technology firms, sports betting companies and TV rights holders were watching.

But why? The technology opens up an opportunity to bring fans closer to the game. It gives them a chance to look at the game from different perspectives, and actually see from a data standpoint more of what’s happening in the game. This particular technology is advancing rapidly, which means the NHL needs to get on this quickly.

Politics

The partial government shutdown became the longest in U.S. history, which isn’t a great milestone given the relationship that President Donald Trump has with Congress right now. This shutdown has left hundreds of thousands of federal workers without a paycheck, and no end in sight for this crisis. In fact, Congress left town on Friday with no real way out of this immigration battle that has divided Trump and the Democrats since he became President. For weeks, the President and Congress have failed to find a way to re-open the government. Of course, the Democrats are unwilling to give Trump more money for a border wall, and Trump is not backing down. On Friday, Trump said that he would consider calling a national emergency to build his wall.

Music

Rapper Lil Uzi Vert posted an Instagram story on Friday, indicating that he is going to stop making music.

“I wanna take the time out to say I thank each and every one of my supports, but I’m done with music. I deleted everything. I wanna be normal… I wanna wake up in 2013”.

I mean, who doesn’t? To be 5 years younger, and to be able to go back and undo some of the biggest mistakes that I made? But that’s not an option for me, or for Lil Uzi Vert. And I’m not really convinced that he’s out of music for good. Maybe he just needs a break. Lots of musicians take breaks and then come back to it after a sabbatical.

Television

It’s been announced that the long-running CBS show Criminal Minds will be renewed for a 15th season, but that it will also be its last. The final season will consist of 10 episodes, and will be shot back-to-back with the Season 14 episodes currently in production. With these final 10 episodes, the show will have aired a total of 325 episodes, making it one of the longest-running shows in television history. The show is a bit too much of a psychological thriller for me, but it revolves around an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the most twisted criminals. They anticipate their moves before they strike again, coming up with a plan to bring them down.
