If you happen to live in New York City, you’re going to see an incredible price hike when it comes to getting around in an Uber. As of Friday, Uber rides will be more expensive as the company seeks to comply with a new hourly minimum wage law for people who drive for ride-sharing companies, like Uber. As part of this new rule, Uber drivers will now be entitled to earn $17.22 an hour. This figure doesn’t include items like gas, tolls and other fees. What is interesting is that Lyft drivers will not be able to benefit from the new minimum wage laws. Of course, Lyft is fighting the law on the grounds that it puts their company at a distinct disadvantage to Uber. But I feel like that’s a weak argument, don’t you?
Sports
Dwayne Wade and Dirk Nowitzki will get another shot at at All -Star glory. Commissioner Adam Silver announced on Friday that the two would be added to the roster, but it’s not your typical addition. The two will be chosen in a special third round of the All-Star draft. Captains LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo will pick from the pool of All-Star starters in the first round, All-Star reserves in the second round and then between Wade and Nowitzki in the third round. Wade has stated that this will be his last season.
Politics
Cory Booker, the Democratic Senator from New Jersey announced this week that he is running for president. Booker is a Yale Law School graduate, a Rhodes scholar, and the second African-American senator to join the pool of Democratic nominees. Booker is the former mayor of Newark and has spent the last year hiring campaign personnel in the lead up to the early primaries. Booker will need to set himself apart in a crowded contest where many will be focusing on a message of love and unity, in an attempt to bring people together. Whether Booker will become the Democratic nominee, remains to be seen, but the world is a better place knowing that he is at least in the race.

Ashley Tisdale’s musical comeback seems to be getting better and better. The 33-year-old kicked off a new era by unveiling her single “Voices In My Head” last year, which was the lead single on her highly anticipated third album Symptoms. What’s interesting is that the album was all about battling her self-doubt and anxiety. Tisdale continues that on her latest track “Love Me & Let Me Go”. The song was released last week which includes some pretty powerful lyrics:
“Love me and let me go. Walk away, finally let me breathe. Stop being so obsessed with me.”
Television
The CW has ordered a drama pilot for Glamorous, which is a show about a gender non-conforming teen who lands a job at a makeup company. The show is written and executive produced by Jordon Nardino, Damon Wayans Jr. and Kameron Tarlow. This project is the first pilot that Wayans will produce under his recent deal with CBS TV Studios. Glamorous is the sixth pilot that the CW has ordered this pilot season. Other shows include Batwoman, The Lost Boys and an untitled Nancy Drew series.
