The Federal Communications Commission issued a proposal which is designed to help first responders be able to better locate 911 callers. The proposed rules would require cellular providers to give more detailed locations of their callers – including a vertical location that would make it easier to find out what floor of a multi-story building a caller is on. Wireless service providers are already required to provide 911 call centers with a dispatchable location, such as a street address or apartment number. These new rules would also have to provide location information on the “z-axis”, which means the dispatcher would know the vertical location of a caller as well.

Sports

The big sports news of the week includes a major trade involving Odell Beckham Jr. from the New York Giants to the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland will send first- and third-round picks, plus safety/returner Jabrill Peppers, to New York for only Beckham in return. Beckham is 26 years old and this is his sixth season with the NFL. He was out for most of the 2017 season due to a broken ankle but has otherwise been a really great player. In fact, he caught 44 touchdowns in 59 games, plus 390 catches overall for 5,476 yards and averaged 93 yards per game.

Politics

Donald Trump just issued his first veto of his presidency on Friday, rejecting a congressional resolution that would have blocked him from funding his border wall without congressional approval.

“As president, the protection of the nation is my highest duty. Yesterday Congress passed a dangerous resolution that if signed into law would put countless Americans in danger, very grave danger. Therefore, to defend the safety and security of all Americans, I will be signing a veto of this reckless resolution.”

BTS is not only going to make their Saturday Night Live debut on April 13, but they’re also going to make history as the first K-pop group to perform on the iconic show. BTS’s performance will take place a day after their seventh album is set to drop. Map of the Soul: Persona will be released on April 12 in advance of kicking off their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself World Tour on May 4 in Pasadena, California. BTS will be touring the United States, Brazil, Europe, and Japan. Which songs should BTS perform that night? Given that they are a genre that we don’t typically see performing on Saturday Night Live, it will be interesting to see which songs they choose!

Television

HBO has confirmed that the first two episodes of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will be slightly shorter than the rest. The final six episodes of the show were originally rumored to be 90 minutes long each, but it will only be the last four episodes of the final season. Before former HBO chief Richard Plepler left HBO, he revealed that the final season was supposed to be more like six movies than television episodes. He went on to say that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had exceeded expectations with the final product. The first two episodes of the final season will be the regular 60 minutes in length, so don’t worry – you will still get your fill of Game of Thrones.
