Jon Stewart may be a comedian and beloved former host of The Daily Show, but on Tuesday he was an emotional human trying to plead for 9/11 first responders.
The speech he gave Tuesday advocated for full funding of the 9/11 first responders compensation fund. To say that he was not pleased with the lack of turnout from Congress was an understatement. He was beyond disappointed by the inaction of the body. The normally funny Stewart angrily pointed out how few members of the House Judiciary subcommittee were present at the hearing.
Stewart looked at all the empty chairs and said. “It would be one thing if their callous indifference and rank hypocrisy were benign but it’s not. Your indifference cost these men and women their most valuable commodity: time. It’s the one thing they’re running out of.”
I highly recommend that you watch the entire speech and try to put yourself in the shoes of the men and women, these American heroes who have risked their lives to save others on 9/11 yet are not getting the help they so deserve.
