How to transfer information from an old iPhone to an iPhone 5

You just got your hands on that super slim iPhone 5. Now how do you move on without leaving your very important data behind? It is fine. No need for a cold sweat at the thought of leaving behind all that music, contacts, or any data for that matter. Even jailbreaks. Just follow these easy steps into transfer bliss. We will cover iCloud and iTunes transfers to the new device. The very first thing you need to do is make a backup of your old iPhone, Once that is done then restore the backup to your new iPhone 5 using iCloud or iTunes.

iPhone (old) to iPhone 5 via iCloud.

You do not have not have to worry about updating your old phone. Just make sure you back it up via the cloud. This part can take you hours depending on the size of your iDevice.

1. Go to Settings app and navigate to iCloud > Storage & Backup and tap onBack Up now button. This may take time depending on the amount of data to be backed up.
2. Now turn off your old iPhone and turn on your new iPhone 5.
3. Go through the setup on the iPhone 5 STOP when prompted to choose a restore or start fresh.
4. When prompted to set up, choose “Restore from iCloud Backup,” tap next, and enter your Apple ID and password.
5. Select the latest backup of your old device and tap Restore. If you have a big backup this will take awhile.
6. iPhone will also start re-downloading all your apps in the background.
7. You will also need to enter your password for your Apple ID, email and other accounts, and voicemail again.
8. That’s it, you should now be able to use your shiny new iPhone 5.

 

If you want use iTunes to transfer your data, it’s simple.

1. Follow the steps above but in step 4 choose: “Restore from iTunes Backup,” tap next, and enter your Apple ID and password.

2. Connect your iPhone 5 to iTunes (on the same computer you used to back up your old iPhone). iTunes will ask you to restore from backup or set up as new. Select the backup of your old device and make sure it has the latest backup of your old iPhone.

3. Hit continue.

4. Your iPhone 5 will restart. Then you are good to go.
