Netflix plans to raise its prices for new subscribers. I am a fan of price hikes if it adds features. If we get more House of Cards type content than I am all for it. Amazon on the other hand already upped its price to $99. Now it has acquired the rights to stream HBO shows.  This will be the first time that HBO shows will available to stream to non-HBO subscribers. Shows like The Wire, Deadwood, Rome and a few more will available on Amazon Prime Instant Video on May 21. Keep in mind new shows such as True Detective won’t hit Amazon Prime for three years after airing. So looks like you will have to keep that HBO Go handy for Game of Thrones.

HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking, beloved and award-winning shows in television history, with more than 115 Emmys amongst the assortment of shows coming to Prime members next month. HBO original content is some of the most-popular across Amazon Instant Video—our customers love watching these shows. Now Prime members can enjoy a collection of great HBO shows on an unlimited basis, at no additional cost to their Prime membership. ~Amazon’s Director of Content Acquisition Brad Beale

Amazon Prime is starting to look better than Netflix. Amazon Prime subscribers get 2 day delivery service, Amazon Instant Video and Music all for $99 per year. Now they need to start cranking out top notch original shows that can match Netflix’s House of Cards.
