“Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilisations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.” – Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Those words are something every science fiction fan knows by heart. That phrase may one day be a reflection of humanity and not something imagined by it. The question of if there is life on another planet is silly. Yes, I said silly. The numbers are staggering. There are more stars than all the grains of sand on earth. Each star has at least one planet around it. There has to be life out there.

NASA scientists agree with me as well. The space agency believes that finding it could happen in just twenty years. They got to that number by considering where telescope technology is going. NASA is excited about upcoming projects like the Transiting Exoplanet Surveying Satellite (TESS) and James Webb Space Telescope, set to launch in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

It’s highly improbable in the limitless vastness of the universe that we humans stand alone ~Astronaut Charles Bolden
