Here Are 23 Movie Trailers That You Need to Watch

There are a ton of new movies coming out in the near future.  And the not so near future.  Sit back, relax and check these out for yourself.

A Wrinkle in Time

Disney released the trailer for the movie A Wrinkle in Time, which sees Oprah as a fairy god-mother, I think.  The movie appears to be a bit like Narnia in that they’re in another dimension.  But it also has some Stepford Wives undertones, as well as a sci-fi factor to it.  The movie is summed up in the trailer by the line “the only thing faster than light is the darkness”.   Coming to theatres this spring.  I’m kind of intrigued by it, so I think I’ll probably check it out.

Alpha

The trailer for the movie Alpha is kind of confusing.  It’s about a boy, who becomes allies with a wolf. Who he was enemies with, I guess?  It’s a story about survival, but what they’re surviving is kind of unclear.  Sure, there are some scenes that indicate some kind of immediate danger, but it’s not exactly clear what they’re surviving.  This one is also coming out next spring, I’m going to take a hard pass.

Bright

A fantasy movie, starring Will Smith, takes on an interesting twist to modern day diversity.  Most notably, the fact that Will Smith’s character is a cop, and is partnered up with some other type of creature.  I’m not even really sure what the other creatures are.  But they have to work together, despite their differences.  There are some magical elements to it.  It’s not really Smith’s normal action type movie.  But this is a Netflix motion picture so it might be something to check out because of that reason alone.  Coming to you in December.

Blade Runner 2049

Ryan Gosling is the main character in this Blade Runner sequel.  Harrison Ford is passing the baton, but it’s a bit unclear what the movie is about.  Pain? If you don’t remember the original, I’m not sure that this will entice you to go and see the movie.  This movie takes place 30 years after the original, but I don’t think the trailer provides the direct link as the sequel.  I am a Ryan Gosling fan, but I’m not sure that I would see it just because he’s in it.  Coming out October 6.

Boo2! A Madea Halloween

I mean, it’s a Tyler Perry movie.  The trailer itself is funny in that there is a good Get Out spoof.  But it might just be another Tyler Perry movie.  If you’re a hardcore Perry fan, then you might want to watch this in theatres on October 20, but you could probably wait until it becomes available online.

Bushwick

Something goes down in New York City.  The city is being attacked.  For the first time, the country is under Martial Law.  What is unclear about this movie is who is attacking the city and why.  It’s also unclear why Martial Law has been enacted.  I may tune into this one only because I think that Martial Law is a very interesting concept and I’m interested to see where this is going.

Ingrid Goes West

Ingrid Goes West is a bit of a social media stalking movie staring Aubrey Plaza.  Ingrid appears kind of crazy, if I’m being honest.  It appears that she leaves her home and heads west to get into some kind of shenaningans.  Another trailer that is a bit unclear for me.  I find Aubrey Plaza to be extremely funny, so I’m a bit surprised by her role in this one. Coming out August 11.

Jigsaw

Jigsaw has been dead for hears.  Except he wasn’t?  Are they just chasing a dead man?  A horror film, which is my least favourite type of film.  But if you’re into horror, it has all the making of a good one.  Torture, suspense, and well…. horror. Is Jigsaw actually alive? Find out for yourself, October 27, just in time for Halloween.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

The next installment in the Kingsman universe looks like it’s going to be a really good spy movie.  And funny.  There are lots of fun tricks in the movie.  Which is why we love spy movies right?  Coming out September 22nd, I think I’d like to check this one out.

Only the Brave

Only the Brave is based on a true story of a group of firefighters who fought a blaze in Arizona.  Dubbed the Seal Team 6 of firefighters, these guys trained for over 4 years to be trained as “hot shots”.  Wild fire rages on the edge of town, while the firefighters have to make decisions about what they’re going to do.  Save the town, or save themselves.  Staring Josh Brolin and Miles Teller, it will be coming out October 20.

Pacific Rim: Uprising

This trailer opens with the line “What is a Jaeger”?  The answer?  You, times one thousand.  This is a sequel to the original Pacific Rim from last year.  Essentially the trailer suggests that you join hte Jaeger uprising.  If you haven’t seen the original, then this might not make sense to you. It certainly didn’t for me.  This film will be available February 23.

Planetarium

Launching August 11, and staring Natalie Portman, the movie is about two sisters who can communicate with ghosts.  The movie has a lot of french subtitles, but seems really interesting.  Why exactly?  I’m not sure, but it suggests that we all battle demons related to our beliefs.  Even if you don’t believe in ghosts, I think that this movie will make you think about your life and beliefs.

Professor Marston & the Wonder Women

This is the story of the creator of Wonder Woman.  After watching the trailer, I am a little confused. It’s hard to tell if he falls in love with a woman, and then bases his comic’s on her.  Or if he fantasizes her into that role.  Either way, it looks really neat.  I always enjoy a true story, regardless of what the story is about.  But in this case, I have an interest in both.

Proud Mary

Mary is an assassin.  I feel like that’s all I need to say.  This is an action movie staring Teraji P. Hensen, and looks killer.  No pun intended.  If you like lady-action, this is your type of movie, but you’ll have to wait until January 12.

Rebel in the Rye

For all of you literary geeks out there, this is the movie for you.  Well, kind of.  Rebel in the Rye is an autobiographical tale of J.D. Salinger, who wrote Catcher in the Rye.  This is allegedly the untold true Salinger story.  There is a lot of eccentricity surrounding the end of Salinger’s life, but this shows us how Catcher in the Rye was born.

The Disaster Artist

This is also based on a true story.  Which makes me want to watch it.  It stars a pretty big cast – Seth Rogan, James Franco, Dave Franco and Paul Sheer, the Disaster Artist is about a really bad movie.  As in, how that movie was made.  The movie hits theatres December 8.  I tend to like the Seth Rogan/James Franco duo, but I’m not sure about this one.  Have a look for yourself!

The Hitman’s Bodyguard

This trailer opens with Ryan Reynolds, which makes me want to watch it, regardless.  It’s a comedy and action movie combined.  The movie also stars Samuel L. Jackson, and is coming to theatres August 18.  One is a hitman, the other is a body guard.  I couldn’t tell which was which based on the trailer, but that makes me want to watch it even more.

The Lego Ninjago Movie

More Lego movies.  Yah!  Coming on September 22nd, this one is about Ninjago and his son, Lloyd.  That part makes me laugh.  A cute Lego movie that everyone should see.

The Shape of Water

The Shape of Water comes to theatres this December and is a fantasy movie set in Cold War America.  It tells the story of an unusual bond between a creature, which has been part of an experiment and some of the humans around it.  I’m kind of intrigued by this movie, but it has some horror type situations that I’m not sure I can handle.

The Snowman

The Snowman is a crime story about a detective trying to find a serial killer.  It’s kind of horrific, if I’m being honest.  They are tracing the Snowman Killer, and they think that he goes after women he doesn’t approve of.  Like any crime movie, it’s suspenseful and leaves you on the edge of your seat.  The idea of the snowman makes it appear a bit childlike, and kind of comical, but the movie is nothing of the sort.

Unlocked

A top CIA operative is asked to come back for a special operation.  But is this just a ruse?  It’s one of those movies where you can’t tell who the good guys are, and who the bad guys are.  Or at least I can’t.  I find these types of movies to be too suspenseful for me to watch.  Leaving me guessing the entire time.  Secretly I love this kind of movie, but only if I have the brain power to put into it.

Wind River

Wind River  is a crime story about a murder that occurred on a Native American reservation.  Will they find the murderer?  Or uncover something more? Also suspenseful, this one looks like it could be interesting.

Wonderstruck

Based on a New York Times Best Seller, a boy in the midwest, and a girl living in New York City are looking for a connection.  But they are living 50 years apart.  It looks like it is a mystery movie, and kind of has some undertones of The Lake House, without the love letters.
