This is only my opinion, and not the representation of Saintel Daily, LLC.

In case you missed it, Donald Trump is at it again.  What is “it”, you ask? Well, I’m not talking about the recently released Stephen King movie.  However, some postulate that the movie is a parable for life with Donald Trump as the president.  But that’s not what I’m referring to.  Over the past weekend, Donald Trump may have declared war on North Korea.  I say “may”, because nobody really knows for sure.  According to North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, Trump “declared war” on North Korea with a tweet.  We’ve all been wondering when Trump’s tweets will get him into trouble, and now we know what capabilities those tweets might have.

The tweet, if you’re not familiar, said the following: “Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won’t be around much longer!”  The latter part of the tweet suggests that Trump is declaring war.  Now, on one hand, I can see how that sounds aggressive.  And maybe even like a threat.  But most people take Trump’s tweets with a grain of salt.  Don’t they?  I would imagine that many of his top advisors and people who are very close to him politically had no idea that he was about to start a war.  Which means that he’s probably just running his mouth.  Which we often see, but does that make it ok?

Because of the tweet, North Korea has “every right” to defend itself.  Which includes the right to shoot down bombers flying outside of its airspace.  To me, this feels more like North Korea was trying to find something that would suggest that they could go to war. To me, it seems like Donald Trump accidentally said something he shouldn’t (surprise), and now someone is using his words against him.  But are these two children just grandstanding, or was it an actual declaration?

The language of the tweet doesn’t suggest that the United States is ready to strike.  So should North Korea just chill out?  The answer to that is a hard yes.  But we also kind of knew this was coming.  I mean, Trump has been calling out North Korea for a while now, and North Korea is saying “bring it”.  What we end up with is a bunch of “insults” being hurled at North Korea just because.  I mean, what other President used social media to this extent?  Could you imagine George W. Bush, tweeting from the White House?  I am pretty sure that Twitter wasn’t around then, but you can see what I’m saying.  His tweets would have been likely more entertaining.

I’d also like to talk about the “insult” that Trump is hurling.  Is “Rocket Man” really that insulting?  It’s like someone coming up to you and saying “you’re ugly”, and your response back is “no, you’re ugly”.  You should never tell anyone that they’re ugly, but I think you can see the point I’m trying to make.  These tweets are childish, and they’re now potentially starting a war.  My guess is that he can’t just walk it back at this point, or even delete the tweet. What’s done is done.  But does that mean America is going to war over this?  Further, is America prepared to go to war for this?  It’s sad to think that this is the man who is running the country.
