If you’re new to the photography game you’re probably wondering which camera you should get. In this post, we will explore your options and outline the best entry-level DSLR for those looking to improve their photography and learn the ins and outs of the camera.

Good – Pentax K-S2

If you already know your way around a camera, the Pentax K-S2 offers powerful features in an affordable package. Including wifi/NFC for transferring images wirelessly to your phone, a better viewfinder, autofocus and image stabilization for older lenses. It also has tools to aid with manual focus for when you want it. That all comes with a much steeper learning curve as the Pentax doesn’t help new users figure out their camera. The price is slightly higher as a standalone camera.  Others on our list are a bit more expensive, but include additional accessories. You can get the Pentax K-S2 on Amazon for $596.95.

Better – Canon EOS Rebel T5i

If you plan to focus on video and are willing to sacrifice usability and still-image quality for better video features, the Canon T5i is a good option. If you’re a beginner, this model makes more sense than the new T6i due to its substantially lower price. The T5i has a tilting LCD touchscreen that’s a big plus for videography when you’re shooting at weird angles. It also has a better autofocus system. But you won’t get the same battery life, overall performance or image quality that you do with our next pick. You can get the Canon EOS Rebel T5i on Amazon for $599.

Even Better – Nikon D3300

If you don’t care about Bluetooth, the Nikon D3300 will get you an almost identical image quality as the D3400. In addition, you will get a stronger flash, a built-in panorama mode, and sensor cleaning. The D3300 costs a bit less than it the D3400. You can get the Nikon D3300 kit on Amazon for $616.13.

Maybe the Best? – Nikon D3400

Nikon continues to put better sensors into its entry-level cameras. Especially when compared to their rival, Canon. That means you get cleaner images when you shoot in low light and can capture a wide range of darks and lights in a single photo. Add to that a super kit lens and a mode that is specifically designed to teach beginners how to shoot and you end up with a camera that makes it easier for beginners to capture better images. And that’s what this post is all about – photography for beginners. You can get the Nikon D3400 kit on Amazon for $669.95.

Another Great Camera – Canon EOS Rebel SL2

It’s difficult to give the title of “the best” to any one particular camera. Which is why I’m also listing the Canon EOS Rebel SL2 as a top contender. If you’re a beginner and on a budget, you will want to purchase the camera as a kit with the additional lens. That will give you a good range for all types of photography. The camera itself is a bit more expensive than some we’ve listed in this post, but sometimes you have to pay in order to get a good product. You can get the Canon EOS Rebel SL2 Camera and Accessory Bundle for $649 on Amazon.
