In the last few years, we’ve established that mindlessly force quitting all apps multiple times a day doesn’t improve iPhone’s performance or the battery life. In fact, you might be doing the exact opposite because the app then needs more resources starting up again. Apple clearly wants users to stop doing this. Which is why they’ve changed the force quit app gesture in iPhone X, making the process slightly more tedious.

There are, of course, times when you really need to kill or force quit an iPhone app. When it’s stuck or is behaving badly. In times like these, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Swipe Up and Hold

First, we need to get to the App Switcher. To do that on the iPhone X, you swipe up from the Home indicator and stop when you see the animation. Now lift your finger and you’ll see all the apps in the horizontal list.

Step 2: Tap and Hold

Swiping up on the cards will do nothing. Instead, tap and hold on one of the cards and you’ll see red minus buttons in the top-left corner of each app card.

Step 3: Now, Swipe Up

Now, you can swipe up on any app to quit them.

What do you think of the fact that there is no longer a Home button?  Is it making your life more difficult?  Or do you think you’ll be able to pick up on this rather quickly? Some suggest that this is a step backward in terms of technology.  But is it really? I think that people are apprehensive about this change because it’s changed.  They’ve been used to the Home button for so long and now they have to adapt to not having it. Going without something can be extremely difficult.  But because we’re constantly dealing with changing technology, we should be used to this by now.

It’s also kind of bold of Apple in a way.  They’re going against the grain and removing something that so many people rely on.  I mean, I look at my iPhone and wonder how I could function without a Home button.  But, like with any change, you get used to it and it becomes the new normal. Of course, it will be difficult.  Mostly because people will have to figure out what to do in place of it.  How do you take a screenshot?  How do you use Siri or Apple Pay?  All of those things were done in a rather seamless way, because of the Home button.  But without it, Apple has had to come up with some innovative ways.

This is truly the most incredible phone that Apple has ever made.  Which means it will take some getting used to but think about what an incredible piece of technology we now have.  It makes you wonder what else they can come up with in the years to come.  Technology is amazing and it transforms our lives.  Rest in Peace, Home Button.
