electric dreams

If you’ve been wondering when Electric Dreams would be available on Amazon Prime, you no longer have to wait.  On January 12, you will be able to watch the sci-fi anthology series based on Philip K. Dick’s short stories.  All ten episodes will be available on the 12th.   If you’re a fan of the genre then this is one you’re not going to want to miss.  If you’re a fan of entertainment, then you’re going to want to watch this because of the cast alone.  It’s honestly insane who they have on this show.

Bryan Cranston, star of Breaking Bad will also serve as executive producer of the show.  He will appear in one episode titled “Human Is”.  But it doesn’t stop there – Essie Davis, Liam Cunningham, Terrence Howard, Anna Paquin, Greg Kinnear, Ruth Bradley, Annalise Basso, Maura Tierney, Janelle Monae, Sarah Baker, Jacob Vargas, and Steve Buscemi – just to name a few.  And that’s exactly what I mean, there are so many incredible actors in this series.

This show has been available in the UK since early October and has averaged anywhere between 600,000 and 1 million viewers for each show since it launched.  Only narrowly losing out to the Handmaid’s Tale, which aired during a similar time on the same channel in the UK.  Amazon secured the rights to the series after AMC pulled out of the development process early in 2017.

If you don’t live in the UK, or the United States, you will still be able to enjoy this dystopian drama.  It will air on Amazon in Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Spain, and Turkey.  It will also air on Stan in Australia and Space in Canada.

What is very interesting about this series is that each episode is based on a different short story of Philip K. Dick’s.  These types of anthology series are becoming increasingly popular and I can see why.  This is a really interesting approach to the way that shows are created.  It also gives the viewer some kind of closure to the end of a series.  On one hand, I want my favorite shows to go on forever.  But on the other hand, I do enjoy the fact that there is some kind of conclusion to the story.  I am also interested in seeing works of fiction come to life on the screen as well.

Amazon is excited to be going down this path as well.  And they should be.  They need more original content.  I love a lot of their shows, but I find that I burn through them so quickly.  I just wish there were more.  This is what Amazon had to say about the series:

“We’re excited to share the fantastical world of Philip K. Dick as it’s never been experienced before. With the combined creative genius behind this series, as well as the stellar cast and visually compelling locations, every episode of this sci-fi anthology is sure to be an entertaining experience for our Prime members.”

Mark January 12 on your calendar so you can be sure to tune in to watch this incredible 10 part anthology.
