Did you get a new MacBook or an iMac for Christmas?  If so, you’re probably itching to use it.  And if you’ve never had a Mac before, you’re probably wondering where to start.  Well, instead of doing something boring – like setting up your email, we’ve got some fun app’s for you to use.  These apps will help you with photo and video editing, but we will also give you apps to help with your writing.  Or if you just want to listen to music, we’ve got some suggestions for you.

pixelmator pro

Pixelmator Pro

If you’ve been using Photoshop, you might want to give Pixelmator a try.  It’s a modern version of Photoshop with some cool black threads. It’s easy to use, and it has a ton of features including – the ability to draw, edit and help you add some incredible visual effects.  Pixelmator is pretty expensive though, so be prepared to shell out $59.99 in the App Store, for the pro version.

affinity designer

Affinity Designer

Affinity Designer is the fastest, smoothest, most precise vector graphic design software available. Built from the ground up over a five-year period, every feature, tool, panel, and function has been developed with the needs of creative professionals at its core. With continuous innovation and development, the result is a ground-breaking application that will revolutionize how you work.Affinity Designer is not as costly as Pixelmator Pro, but it will cost you $39.99 in the App Store.

affinity photo

Affinity Photo

If Pixelmator Pro isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, but you’re still looking for some kind of Photoshop type app on your Mac, you should try Affinity Photo.  Affinity Photo is packed with a ton of high-end tools and features for creating, processing and retouching images.  It’s all backed with a sleek and usable interface. Affinity Photo is available through the App Store for $39.99.

flare 2

Flare 2

Flare 2 is kind of sneaky.  At first, it seems like a one-click iPhone filter app, but it’s got a twist.  To start, it’s got some pretty great filters.  But you can access the edit section, and suddenly there are a ton of sliders.  You can fine tune everything, which means you can create every kind of custom photo effect imaginable. While I love the idea of this app, it might be a little pricey considering what you’re getting.  You can download Flare 2 from the App Store for $9.99.

comic life 3

Comic Life 3

Comic Life 3 allows you to transform your pictures of family and friends into comic strips.  I honestly find this one super appealing and cute.  Get your words straight from the script editor, before adding photos, comic filters, speech balloons and sound effects. Kapow!  While I did say that I love this app, I don’t know if it’s worth the price of $29.99.

final cut pro

Final Cut Pro

iMovie is comparable to an abacus when you put it next to the supercomputer that is Final Cut Pro.  Fast and powerful, this is the app you want to use to edit your home movies.  This might be overkill, but it’s still the holy grail of movie editing software.  This one is super expensive, but it’s kind of worth it. Especially if you’re into creating (and editing) videos in any way. You can get Final Cut Pro from the App Store for $299.99.

dm1

DM1

dj pro2

djay Pro 2

The last app on this list is djay Pro 2.  If you’re a music nerd, this is the app for you.  Especially if you can’t carry your vinyl around with you.  Becuase who does that anyway?  But that’s what makes this app so incredible.  You can beat-match, crossfade and add any kind of irritating phasing effects that you decide.  And if you’re a little on the lazy side, try out the Automix AI. djay Pro 2 is available from the App Store for $39.99.
