workout

Over the last few months, I have switched gears with my workout routine and I’ve been doing a lot more strength and conditioning. It’s a great workout, don’t get me wrong. But what I notice about the workout is that it’s incredibly easy to do this kind of workout at home. I mean, if you’ve got some weights or even your body for that matter, you can do one of these workouts. What’s great is that there is a ton of apps now available to help you with your workout. That’s always my challenge – what should I do? How long should I do it for? Am I only working out my upper body? Well, with this kind of direction all you need is some equipment and you’re good to go.

Aaptiv

Aaptiv is the best and most feature-rich audio workout apps available on the iPhone. You can choose from over 2500 workouts – in a broad range of categories. It can be something as simple as a guided run, or something complex and is more about the high-intensity. In all of the workouts, an expert trainer will always be in your ear, providing helpful advice. They will tell you what exactly to do and how to do it. That way, you can make sure your posture is just right. While you’re working out, Aaptiv will also play customized music in the background. One that is just right for the kind of workout you’re doing.

Aaptiv will give you one month’s subscription for free. After that, it’s $14.99/month. But if you sign up before the end of January, you’ll get an entire year’s subscription for just $99. Which is pretty reasonable when some gym memberships will cost you anywhere from $150 to $500 a month. (Yes, you read that correctly)

MoveWith

MoveWith is an audio workout app that focuses on much more than just physical fitness. You’ll find a lot of yoga and mindfulness classes in the app as well. The classes are guided by expert coaches, mixed with customized background music. Classes range from 7 minutes all the way up to 60 minutes. With this app, you can create a customized goal plan. MoveWith revolved around a personalized experience. You get one week free. After that, it’s $12.99/month or $95.99/year ($7.99/month).

FitRadio

FitRadio is all about high-energy music and cardio workouts. If you do a lot of cardio, then you should check out this app. When you’re doing cardio, so much depends on your motivation to keep going. You need to workout for 30 minutes to an hour at a consistent rate. And what better way to do that than alongside some music? Yes, you can create a playlist yourself, but honestly, that’s not enough. If you’re using FitRadio, you can tell the app what kind of workout you’re doing and what kind of high-intensity music you want the app to play for you. For example, when you’re doing a running workout, you can tell FitRadio what pace you’re targetting and the app will customize the music to help you get there.

FitPlan

With FitPlan, you will get fitness advice from some of the world’s best athletes. You can train with Jen Selter, Michelle Lewin, Mike O’Hearn, or Jen Heward. FitPlans approach is a bit different from some of the other options on this list. While you can just pick workouts a la carte, but FitPlan really shines because of its customized plans that last for multiple weeks. FitPlans range from 3-12 weeks and they’re customized for your goals.

Running Trainer

If you want to start running, one of the best ways to do it is through the C25K training program. It’s an interval running program where you gradually increase your running time. With that comes an increase in strength. Once you can run a 5K, you will then graduate to a 10K, and maybe even a marathon. Running, in theory, is simple. In fact, it’s something that I picked up this fall. That said, running the right way can be complicated as you need to be aware of what you’re doing. Running Trainer is one of the apps that will guide you through the process. You’ll get expert instructions and live updates as you’re walking, running and jogging. But what is great about this app is that it’s completely free!
