These Are the Best Apps for Your Apple TV – Part 1

The whole idea of being able to watch TV using apps is a relatively strange notion, isn’t it?  This is how Tim Cook envisions the future, and I mean – he’s not wrong.  That’s largely how our world operates, doesn’t it?  This is great news for Apple as they have always had a really good system of apps to power their hardware.  If you’re wanting to consume media in any way, you need to check out our list of the best apps for your Apple TV.

Amazon Prime Video

When did Apple and Amazon become best friends?  Apparently, towards the end of 2017, the two made amends.  Which meant that Amazon Prime Video finally made it to Apple TV.  Which is great news because I personally love both of these companies – and for wildly different reasons.  But the fact that I can now watch Amazon Prime Video on my Apple TV kind of makes my day.

Carrot Weather

We’ve talked about Carrot Weather many times on Saintel Daily.  Usually putting it on a list, much like this one, explaining why it’s the best weather app.  And well, this list is no different.  Many weather apps will give you the forecasts and maps, but only CARROT will give you that extra bit of snark.  Powered by AI, CARROT will give you some animated descriptions of the days projected weather.  Making it a great addition to your Apple TV family of apps.  And a useful one.  Who doesn’t want to know what the weather will be like?

Earthlapse 4K

There’s something magical about seeing the Earth from above, and Earthlapse offers some stunning time-lapse photography. There are 18 carefully mastered views from the ISS to choose from, and you can muck about with speed, color filters, and the soundtrack as you gawk at our little blue planet zooming through space.

Flickr for iPhone is a must-have download, especially since it offers 1TB of free storage and optional automatic back up of your photos.  On your Apple TV, you’ll have a bit of a different experience, but one that will allow you to enjoy your photos on the big screen.  You can also browse uploads from other users as well.  Who doesn’t want to be able to see all their images in big screen glory?

iTunes Movie Trailers

I love a good movie trailer. I mean – love!  There is one drawback to iTunes Movie Trailers though – its restricted to the US, Canada, and the UK.  But iTunes Movie Trailers provides an otherwise efficient and usable means to check out all the upcoming films.  Click a piece of cover art and you get an overview of the flick in question, along with access to current trailers. Interesting movies can be put into a favorites list.  How you will manage this in terms of what movies you watch next is not quite clear, but I’m sure you will be able to come up with your own system.

Kitchen Stories

My favorite cooking app, Kitchen stories, is filled with gorgeous photography and tons of video.  You won’t be surprised to hear that the Apple TV app version focuses on video.  It highlights a selection of videos covering recipes and skills.  If you’ve always been curious about how to prepare beef stew, then this is the app for you.  I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.
