mothers day

It’s Mother’s Day, and if you’ve forgotten, or missed it for whatever reason, we have some gifts to help you. Growing up, my mother always wanted peace and quiet for Mother’s Day, so as an adult, we recognize the day, but I tend to let her do her own thing.  That’s just the type of person she is.  We all have busy lives, and it’s not that we don’t love or want to recognize our mothers.  But sometimes life just happens.  Which is why I think you don’t have to make a big deal of it just because it’s Mother’s Day.  Give your mom one of these gifts any time of year, and it will surely make her smile.

Breakfast in bed

  • Breakfast In Bed

If you are lucky enough to spend time with your mother today, consider making her a special breakfast.  It doesn’t have to be fancy – bagels, eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit and coffee/tea.  It honestly doesn’t matter.  As long as it comes from the heart, she will appreciate it.  But, if your mom is like mine, she’s probably awake long before I am so this one might take some extra planning, and an early start.

food

  • Just Breakfast

Like I said in my intro, I don’t think that it has to be today that you do this for your mother.  Again – it doesn’t have to be breakfast either.  What about brunch?  There are lots of stores where you can get some pre-made food also, to help you with the prep-time.  Or if you’re not really great with the whole cooking thing.  Throw a couple of flowers in there, and, well, your mother will be elated that you’ve even put in the thought and the effort.

homemade bookmark

  • A DIY Gift

Even young kids can make something for mom that she’ll love for a long time.  Perhaps a scarf, or a beautiful bookmark.  It doesn’t have to be something fancy, but just something that has thought and effort put into it.  This will also give your child an opportunity to do some crafting and get creative.

mothers day coupon

  • Printable Mother’s Day Coupons

If you don’t have time to make something, and buying something isn’t an option, why not try some free Mother’s Day Coupons?  You don’t necessarily have to find them online and print or buy them.  You can easily make your own.  Maybe instead of “help with laundry”, you make one that says “running an errand for you”.  Or “taking you shopping”.  Regardless, your mom is going to be happy that you’re willing to lend a hand.

chocolate

  • Treats with Mother’s Day Delivery

My mom loves chocolate, so ordering some kind of chocolate treat for would make her special day.  If you don’t live near your mom, you can try a mail delivery option, but you can also head to your local chocolate shop (or whatever she prefers) and support a local business.

tea party

  • Tea for Two

I’ve been neglecting the grandmothers in this post.  All of these apply, but maybe you want to take mom and grandma out for a Sunday tea?  High tea shops are popping up all over the place, and they are incredibly popular and reasonably priced.  Or, if you’d like something a little bit more intimate, why not pick up a few vintage teacups and have a tea party at your own home?

ice cream sundae

  • A Homemade DIY Ice Cream Sundae Kit

With the gorgeous weather that we’ve been having, giving mom a DIY Ice Cream Sundae Kit, might just hit the spot.  Before you deliver the kit, make sure that you stop by the supermarket and get a few pints of mom’s favorite ice cream.

heart necklace

  • A Special Piece of Jewelry

A tasteful heart necklace makes a special gift that can be given to your mom at any time.  You can buy a necklace online and have it shipped directly to mom, or you can pick one up at the mall and take it to her the next time you see her.

flowers

  • Flowers

Need I say more?  I mean, flowers are always a great way to tell someone that you care.  Again, it doesn’t have to be on Mother’s Day specifically, but maybe you just want your mom to know that you’re thinking about her.  Regardless, it’s a great gift and she will love it and thank you for it.

mothers day card

  • A Handmade Card

Last, but not least – a handmade card.  This is great when it’s coming from little ones.  Kids love to get involved in the gifts that they’re giving to their parents, so why not let them draw something special for mom or grandma?

While I think Mother’s Day is truly special, I also think that you need to make your mom feel special all year round.  Some of us don’t get to see our mothers very often, so for those of you who do, cherish that time together and don’t just show her how special she is on Mother’s Day.
