battlefield 5

gamescom

Gamescom might not be as big as E3, but it’s still a huge event.  The convention is held in Cologne, Germany and is one of the world’s biggest gaming conventions.  It’s also a great place for some gaming companies – like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo to drop some trailers that the couldn’t during E3.  Either they weren’t ready, or there just wasn’t enough time. Gamescom, though, is the perfect event for third-party developers and PC hardware makers to shine.  For example – if you’re looking for a new graphics card, or looking for an update on your favorite game – Gamescom is where you want to be.  Companies like Bethesda, Ubisoft, Activision, and Nvidia are among the companies who are slowly starting to leak news out all week long.

The good news?  You don’t have to head to Germany in order to see what’s going on!  We’ve got some of the biggest announcements and trailers from this years Gamescom.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

While Nintendo didn’t exactly make any break-out announcements at Gamescom, but it still dropped a big Super Smash Bros.  The game is a crossover fighting game featuring various Nintendo and third-party characters.  The game is anticipated to be released on December 7, 2018.  What’s incredible is who is on the roster.  It’s basically every character that you can think of who’s been featured in a Smash title. Lots of new costumes are available for the character, including Breath of the Wild Link and A Link Between Worlds Zelda.  Pikachu comes with a female version.  Mario will have both his wedding outfit and his builder’s outfit.  Even if you haven’t played all the other games, this game looks really endearing.  Sure, it’s a bit aggressive, but only from a Mario perspective.

Jump Force Characters

Goku may not be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t getting his own game!  Jump Force was one of the most unexpected announcements at E3.  But at Gamescom, Bandai Namco revealed 6 more characters for Jump Force including characters from Hunter X Hunter, more fighters from One Piece and Dragon Ball as well as three characters from Bleach.  The company also revealed that Death Note characters will be in the game, but they won’t be playable.

Battlefield 5

DICE dropped two trailers for Battlefield V at Gamescom.  One was a general trailer that teases the Rotterdam and North African maps, as well as an action trailer with explosions and gameplay.  Either way, the game looks fun and exciting.  It also gives viewers a general feel for the game, but if you’re looking for specifics, DICE brought a little more to the Xbox One live stream. The “build your company” trailer was short, and didn’t go into much detail — but it did give us a hint of how important character progression is going to be in Battlefield 5. “Playing as a squad is key to your success in Battlefield 5,” the video narrates, explaining that playing in squads is the best way to unlock new combat roles that are unique to each character class.
