We have been hearing the rumors about Nintendo working on a new Switch for months, and here it is. The Switch Lite as the name implies is a smaller version of the Switch gaming console. The Switch Lite is designed only for handheld play. So the name Switch does not really hold true anymore but I can understand why Nintendo was not keen on leaving it behind. The Switch Lite will hit stores on September 20th with a priced tag of $200. I am sure there will be a lot of third party skins for this gaming gem similar to the 3DS but before then; the three stock colors will be yellow, gray and turquoise.

As you can tell from the pictures and the video below, the main difference with the Switch Lite is it is a portable-only console. That means you can not change out the Joy-Con controls, TV, the cool HD Rumble feature has been removed and you can not connect it to your TV. Surprisingly enough the graphics have not been toned down. The resolution of the Switch Lite is still 720p, just like its the original Switch. You might not notice it at first glance but the screen is also smaller at 5.5 inches vs. the 6.2-inch screen of the original Switch. The tradeoff is that you get some great battery life out of the Switch Lite. According to Nintendo, the Switch Lite can go on for an extra 30 minutes longer than the original Switch. Nintendo is claiming the Switch Lite has about 3-7 hours.

Nintendo figured you would have a few concerns and they answered a lot of them. Will multiplayer Switch battles now require standalone consoles? NO. your wireless controllers can connect to the Switch Lite however you won’t be able to use the Switch Lite to recharge any extra Joy-Cons.

There is not to complain about here. The price has basically been dropped, same graphics, longer battery life and you still get compatibility with nearly all of the Switch’s games library. It should be perfectly priced those of us that were on the fence about getting a Switch. Pokémon fans waiting on Pokémon Shield and Sword –just got an early holiday present as well. There is a special-edition Switch Lite coming to November 8th called Zacian and Zamazenta Edition respectfully. They will be decorated with cyan and magenta buttons as well as have illustrations of the two new Legendary Pokémon across the back.
