The new Cadillac STS will be one of the first cars to have the CUE interface. The Cadillac ATS which was just announced yesterday will battle BMW for the same customer demographic.

The CUE is based on HTML 5 and Linux. OnStar was on hand as well to announce that their API will be open to 3rd party developers. The 1st 3rd party developer to take advantage of the access has created an app that is a P2P Car Sharing.

It’s like you have the power to run your own ZipCar business using just your OnStar equipped car and an app. RelayRides is in closed beta test now. The rates for customers to rent are sent by the car owners, currently as low as $5 an hour.

OnStar also said customers can look forward to Verizon LTE connectivity on Cadillac cars very soon. The VOLT will be the first one with this great feature. You can Skype, play Angry Birds and even access the movies from your home computer via the CUE system. No word on how encoding will be rendered or data cost but even the option is intriguing.
