HBO used to have a show called The Wire. In that show you learned a lot about wiretaps and burners. One of the first things you learn is to get a throw-away phone number. Well you can now save cost and just download an app.
Seriously though, this app has great advantages. Media companies can use the burner app for contest. The Burner iPhone app, from a company called Ad Hoc is not expensive and could prove useful.
After you pay $2 for the app, you are provided with a new phone number that lasts for 20 minutes, 60 texts or seven days. You can hit “burn” to permanently wipe it from the company’s servers. Now, I’m not sure if there is a delay from the time you burn and its deleted since its privacy statement says that they “may disclose your personal data if required by law.”
