OS X Maverick: Just the facts

OS X Mavericks, the next version of Mac OS X marks Apple’s move away from cat-themed names for major OS X releases.

Highlights about OS X Maverick from the keynote:

Finder Tabs

Finder now has tabbed browsing support just like your web browser, so that you can see contents of various directories without having to juggle between multiple windows. You can drag files and folders across tabs, as you’d expect.

Document tags

You can now tag documents when you save them, so that they appear in a single group in Finder. Documents can be tagged from any device and OS X will sync them using iCloud. These tags will also be searchable from the Finder, so that you can find documents more easily.

Better Multiple Display Support

Docks, menus can now appear on each display, and full screen mode no longer makes all screens except for one useless. There’s multiple monitor support for Spaces as well, so now you can move between different spaces on one screen without affecting the other one.

Safari

Safar’s home page now has a sidebar that shows you your bookmarks, reading list and shared links. Shared links are links shared by your friends on various social networks like Twitter and LinkedIn. There are various under the hood optimizations for performance improvements, some advanced features like the addition of OpenGL 4 for better graphics, an updated Safar and a lot more.
