beyonce-no

Beyoncé recently surprised the whole world with the release of her new album. However, not everyone was impressed with the exclusivity deal she had with Apple. The  Beyoncé’s record-breaking album sold over 827,000 copies in all digital form all on iTunes. Beyoncé’s album is the fastest selling album in iTunes history, moving more units than any one ever in just 3 days.  Target,  who also likes to have exclusive deals with artists, isn’t pleased at all with Beyoncé. They are so displeased that they have gone and lost their minds. I mean, decided not to sell the album.

A Target spokesperson told Billboard the following regarding the matter:

At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections. While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce’s new self-titled album ‘Beyonce.’

In 2011 Beyoncé had extra tracks in an extended edition exclusively for Target. How soon we forget when we don’t get our way. It could be that Target wants to take this opportunity to send a message to artist because Beyoncé isn’t the only artist who has decided to partner with Apple first.   Justin Timberlake did the same thing with his 20/20 album. Although, it was not a surprise and did not get as much press as only Beyoncé can.
