Titanfall1

I know that statement is bold but Titanfall is a game that has to be played. It is like nothing else you have played before. I don’t even like first person shooters but I have not been able to put down this game. I kept wondering why is this game so  good?  Then it came to me. It’s the game play. The same great game play that can be found in Call of Duty. That is because the makers of Titanfall are the same folks that made Call of Duty what is today. Infinity Ward came up with the Modern Warfare line which is arguably what has made Call of Duty so popular. The WWII first person shooter was getting stale. Infinity Ward changed that. Then something unexpected happen that creative team got fired or left the company and created their own studio.

On March 1, 2010, Activision fired  Jason West (Infinity Ward president, game director, co-CCO, and CTO) and Vince Zampella (CEO and co-founder of Infinity Ward) due to “breaches of contract and insubordination”. West and Zampella went on to form a little independent gaming studio known as Respawn Entertainment. They got funding from Electronic Arts Partners Program. The deal worked like the one Bungie has in place with EA. Meaning, West and Zampella retain the rights to all intellectual property produced by them. Also 38 of the 46 Infinity Ward employees resigned and signed on with Respawn Entertainment.

Titanfall2
You have to experience this game to get an idea of the excitement this game provides. Taking a look at the sreenshots and Youtube gameplay does not do the game justice. There is a lot of hype about this game and I think this is one of the few games that live up to the hype. Expectations for the game from Microsoft and fanboys was incredibly high. Twitch may have been late to the system but one starts to think that maybe it was a plan that Microsoft executives hatched. Maybe they were holding it off for this game. Instead, Titanfall’s game format is exclusively multiplayer from start to end. There’s no one player option.

Pros: This is the game that should have launched with the system in the first place. Titanfall is the Halo of this generation for the Xbox. It lives up to the hype from start to finish. There is no end in sight as it seems. Each time you reach level 50 you have the option to Respawn. Should you select this option you will revert to level 1 and become a 2nd Generation pilot. There are 10 generations in total. The game could literally go on forever and I think it just might.

Cons: The in games maps are not too helpful but they don’t really have to be. The dots are enough to know what is going on. The environment is not anything amazing to look at. The frame-rates are suspect. There are clearly issues when a lot of Titans are on the screen. For a next-gen system, I am not seeing next-gen graphics. It’s not doing anything different or new with its game modes.

Unexpected: The multiplayer is so much fun and packs so much action that the lack of single-player campaign is not missed.

Cost: $60
