The legendary singer Prince Rogers Nelson who is better known as Purple One, His Royal Badness and most routinely Prince; has passed away today at age 57. Prince was reported to not be feeling well earlier this month and canceled a concert. He later performed in Atlanta to perform but right after the concert, the singer’s plane made an emergency landing.

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” said his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure.

Prince combined rock, R&B, soul and hip-hop to create a unique sound called “the Minneapolis sound.” He has sold more than 100 million records during his 40-year career. Prince has won seven Grammy Awards with over 25 nominations. He won an Oscar for the original song score to the film “Purple Rain.” He has 5 of #1 singles and 14 others were in the Top 10. Prince has four number 1 albums in the U.S. However like Michael Jackson, Prince had issues with the music industry as well. He was in a fight for creative freedom that at one time had his name changed to a symbol and was referred to “The Artist formally known as Prince.” He will be sorely missed. Today we now know what it sounds like when a doves cry.
