This weekend’s Big Ten football championship game on Fox Sports will be very important. Not just to of the huge playoff implications but because of an experiment that is taking place on the field. Football fans will get to see the field in a whole new way. When Wisconsin takes on Penn State for the Big Ten Championship referees will be wearing hats equipped with GoPros. If all goes well this will be helpful for ratings and the struggling GoPro who recently had to issue a recall for its drones.
I for one am looking forward to seeing things from a referees perspective of the action. An unseen benefit of this experiment is that it might make fans more forgiving of them when they blow calls if we can see what they see or don’t see for that matter. Fox Sports worked alongside GoPro and Big Ten officials to make sure things will work without issue.
