Even if you are not in to sports there is no way you went today without hearing about Blake Griffin. He was everywhere. We are getting ahead of our post. Let me digress. We started with the 3 Point contest. We had two Boston Celtics going against each other. Paul Pierce and the arguably the best 3 point shooter of our time Ray Allen. (Sorry Reggie Miller and Larry Bird) There was however another cast member tonight that came to play. James Jones of the Miami Heat not only shot well but took both the Celtics out. Not to play Nostradamus but I think it was a flash of the Eastern conference championships.

The Dunk Contest is BACK!

I do not recall the dunk contest being this hyped since, well ever. There have always been the expected. The Jordan vs. Dominique showdowns. Also Vince Cater’s great year did not disappoint. There are however those that were hyped but did not live up to it. Steve Francis and Sean Kemp comes to mind. The slam dunk contest has been a joke for a few years now. But this year..This year we as fans were hoping, expecting, wishing for a change. We got just what we wanted sort of.

The dunk contest was the highlight of the night and baring any super great plays in the actual All Star Game will be what is talked about at the water cooler on Monday. I say sort of for a few reasons. 1st, the amount of chances one gets to dunk takes away from the impact of the dunk when the player actually manages to complete it. Magee tried his two rim dunk over and over again. Yes it was impressive but the impact was gone after the 3rd try. Take away the clock and bring back numbered attempts. The other reason I say sort of is the voting. This act should be left to fans. The judges are very very bias at times. When you have a person dunk 3 balls into one basket not win the contest that is a problem.

It was predetermined that Blake Griffin would win the contest. It was a great presentation but the dunks he did were not spectacular and do not match anything that has come before it. Even in the same night. If it was just based on dunks JaVale McGee should have won the dunk contest. But its not. Its based on hype and presentation. Kenny The Jet Smith was very helpful in that department. All in all the dunk contest is back and it was a great night for fans of basketball.

  1. Thanks for some other fantastic article. The place else could anyone get that type of info in such an ideal approach of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I’m at the look for such information.
