The 61st BFI London Film festival has just been announced it’s 2017 lineup for the upcoming festival.  The festival runs October 4-16 and will screen 242 films, including 29 world premieres.  Of those films, 8 are international premieres and 34 are European premieres.  In addition to all these films premiering, there will be on stage Q&A with some of the actors including Julian Rosefeldt, Cate Blanchett, David Fincher, Ian McEwan and Takashi Miike.

The opener will be Breather, and the closing film will be Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.  In addition to these movies, gala slots will go to Call Me By Your Name, Downsizing, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool, Journey’s End, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Last Flag Flying, Mudbound, The Shape of Water and You Were Never Really Here.  

You can choose to explore the festival through one of the carefully cultivated strand.  Each of the festivals themed strands will have its own gala.  Which includes:

On chesil beach

  • Thrill – Nerve shredders that will get your adrenaline pumping and keep you on the edge of your seat. Film: Blade of the Immortal
  • Cult – From mind altering and unclassifiable to fantasy, sci-fi and horror. Film: Thelma
  • Journey – Whether it’s the journey or the destination, films to transport you and shift your perspective. Film: Wonderstruck
  • Create – Films that channel the electricity of the creative process, celebrating artistic expression in all its forms.  Film: Redoubtable
  • Family – Films for the young and young at heart.  Film: The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales
