As great as the New York Yankees are, they have never had a 3K player. Jeter is the first with 3,000 hits in the teams storied history and the 28th player in baseball history to reach 3,000 hits. Jeter reached it in grand style by hitting a home run in the third inning at Yankee Stadium off the Tampa Bay Rays’ David Price.
Ripken and Yount have never won a batting title even though too hit 3000. Jeter is in the same boat although he has been the runner-up. Jeter is on a three-year, $51 million contract with the Yankees. With 3,000 hits, Jeter has claimed his page in the history books and claimed his spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He left an indelible mark on the game of baseball, the City of New York and of course the fans of the Yankees.
