TV Shows
The movies that were released over the past year were incredible, but they are nothing compared to what we’re seeing these days with TV. I would argue that this list has missed some pretty amazing shows. I’m not saying that these aren’t great, but come on – the Big Bang Theory made the list? I do enjoy the show as something to fill time, but there is no storyline at this point. I guess the downside of this list is that it doesn’t include Netflix shows. Which means, the list doesn’t include Orange is the New Black or Black Mirror or any of the Marvel shows.
Game of Thrones
If you haven’t been watching Game of Thrones – what is wrong with you? Jokes. I am sure that this show doesn’t appeal to a lot of people. It’s a fantasy drama series, based on the novels A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The show is filmed in Belfast, and random locations throughout the United Kingdom, Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Malta, Morocco, Spain and the United States. The series has been around since 2011, and the seventh season just ended in August. It’s anticipated that season eight won’t air until 2019, so fans of the show are going to have to wait. It is an amazing show, so it’s no surprise that it made the top downloaded list.
The Walking Dead
Like Game of Thrones, there are a lot of people who haven’t been watching The Walking Dead. I know, I know – who are these people? It’s a post-apocalyptic horror TV series. Which means it’s going to be appealing to only certain people. The show centers around Sherrif Deputy, Rick Grimes, who wakes up from a coma only to discover that the world is overrun by zombies, commonly referred to as “walkers”. Grimes reunites with his family and becomes the leader of a group he forms with other survivors. Together they struggle to survive and adapt to a post-apocalyptic world filled with walkers and opposing groups of survivors, who are often more dangerous than the walkers themselves.
Big Bang Theory
On one hand, I’m surprised that this made the list. But on the other hand, I’m not surprised. While I like the show, I find it to be a lot of filler at times. It’s a good way to kill a mindless half an hour. It’s extremely popular though. Sheldon Cooper has quite the personality, which kind of makes the show funny. That said, I know a ton of people who love this show, which is likely why it has been downloaded so many times.

Rick and Morty
Rick and Morty is an animated science-fiction sitcom that airs on Adult Swim. The series follows the misadventures of cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his fretful, easily influenced grandson Morty Smith. They split their time between domestic life and interdimensional adventures. This is a cute show, but I think it’s directed to a very niche audience. I often hear Chris Hardwick talking about it on his podcast, so I think of him when I see the show.
The Americans
The Americans has been named one of the best shows on TV, so I am not at all surprised that it made Apple’s list. The show is set in the early 1980s during the Cold War. The story is of two Societ KGB officers posing as an American married couple living in the suburbs of Washington D.C. Their neighbor is an FBI agent who works in counterintelligence. The show is a period piece, set during the Reagan administration. It was actually created by a former CIA agent, so the show is very true to life. This show might not be everyone’s cup of tea either, so it does suprise me a bit that it made the list as well.
