Samsung just released its Q1 2019 earnings report, which estimates an operating profit of 6.2 trillion won (about $5.5 billion). While these numbers might seem staggering, it is actually half of their profit of $14.4 billion which was recorded in the same quarter last year. Samsung had issued an unprecedented warning for investors of bad news on the way, citing declines in prices for memory chips, and lower demand for screens like the OLED display it makes for Apple’s iPhone. A more in-depth breakdown will be available over the next few weeks, but Samsung was really hoping that the Galaxy S10 series would help turn things around.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball and his agent, Harrison Gaines, have mutually agreed to part ways. “Harrison Gaines has been a trusted advisor and a close friend for many years. He guided my NBA career with integrity and always had my best interests at heart”, Ball said in a statement. This announcement comes just two weeks after Ball severed ties with and sued former Big Baller Brand co-founder Alan Foster for damages of at least $2 million, Ball insisted Gaines supported him through that situation and that this decision was unrelated.

Things appeared to be looking up for Donald Trump last week after he declared that Mueller’s Russia probe exonerated him. But we don’t necessarily know the entire truth. Since then, however, things haven’t been as great for Trump. In fact, he unleashed two new political crises, one on healthcare and one on the Mexican border. But quickly after, he retreated on both of them. Not to mention, a brief lull in House Democratic oversight action ended abruptly when House investigators demanded his tax returns. To circle back, there have been news reports that Mueller’s report may be released soon, and the findings might be far more damaging than Attorney General William Barr has publicly indicated. Which indicates that Russia isn’t in Trump’s past just yet.

Rapper Nipsey Hussle died this past week after a shooting in Los Angeles near a clothing store that he owned. It is believed that Hussle was shot over a personal matter, and the suspect had been in contact with Hussle multiple times that day, before returning with a gun and opening fire. Hussle had been working with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in an attempt to come up with a way to end gang violence. In fact, Hussle had been scheduled to meet with LA Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff and LAPD Chief Michale Moore on Monday to discuss ways that he could help stop gang violence and help kids.

The City of Chicago is preparing to sue Empire actor Jussie Smollett for $130,000 in order to recoup costs of their investigation into the hate crime that he was involved with. Last week, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office dropped 16 counts against Smollett, who had been accused of faking a hate crime against himself. The decision caused an uproar in Chicago, with Mayor Rahm Emanuel and other officials blasting the prosecutor’s office. Two days later, the city’s Department of Law sent Smollett a bill in the amount of $130,106.15, and gave him one week to pay up. Because Smollett has refused to reimburse the City of Chicago for the cost of police overtime, they will now file a lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
