No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family. ~Justice Anthony Kennedy

One wonders what was taking so long for the Supreme Court to act on the Same-Sex Marriage  issue. The justices were in no rush to tackle the issue. In fact, they have deliberately ducked the issue. Going as far as refusing to hear appeals from lower court rulings. However, that inaction cleared the way for same-sex marriages in states that choose to have them. As yesterday there were 36 states that have given gay couples the right to marry. 70% of Americans live in places where gay couples can marry. Today after the ruling, its 100%.

Supreme Court approves same-sex marriage nationwide thus making it illegal for States to stop it. The Supreme Court stated that States that are putting prohibitions on same-sex marriage violate the Constitution. This is a very big victory for gay rights in America. The rest of the other states now do not have a choice although they could still put hoops in the way like early fights for African American’s rights to vote. In a 5-4 ruling, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote for the majority with the four liberal justices.

GayRights ruling

Even though the Supreme Court should be immune political lines however like George Bush’s election case a few years back, it came down to sides. Luckily this time the liberal size determined that civilization’s oldest form of commitment should be an option to everyone regardless of sex. institutions.  Justice Antonin Scalia disagreed with the ruling stating that Supreme Court ‘s “threat to American democracy and not of immense personal importance to him. While Chief Justice John Roberts wrote that the decision had “nothing to do with the Constitution.” America joins 21 other countries who have legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. Many companies have changed their social medial logos to support the ruling. President Obama called it a what it is, a victory.
