Apple recently sent out an email to it’s Apple Pay customers indicating that if you sign up for Postmates Unlimited with Apple Pay, by November 23, you’ll get free delivery on orders costing $20 or more until the end of the year.  This deal also means that you won’t have to pay the $9.99 monthly subscription fee.  Which means, you’re basically getting a free month-long trial of the service as a reward for just checking it out.

What is Postmates exactly?  It’s a food delivery service that allows you to order food from restaurants in your area.  What’s special about this service is that you can order from restaurants even if they don’t have a dedicated delivery service.   Delivery fees do increase depending on how far away the restaurant is.  Or how busy Postmates carriers currently are.  Think Uber pricing when it’s a busy time.  The Postmates Unlimited subscription allows users to get free delivery no matter what the circumstances are. You just have to pay that $9.99 monthly feel.  But with Apple’s promotion, that fee will be waived until 2018 starts

This definitely sounds like a great deal.  However, as someone who is trying to spend less money by eating at home.  And as someone who is attempting to find healthier options – also by cooking and preparing my meals at home, this offer isn’t that great of a deal.  It’s very tempting, however.  Which is likely how this service is going to get people.  Don’t get me wrong.  If you find that you’re always ordering in food, this is definitely the way to go.  It’s also a very interesting business concept.

Dubbed as a “revolutionary Urban Logistics platform”, Postmates attempts to connect customers with local couriers who can deliver anything from any store or restaurant in minutes.  And this is what I find interesting.  As someone who is pretty busy, I don’t find I have a lot of extra time for certain tasks.  Which is why it’s been difficult for me to actually prepare meals and eat at home.  Again, this is why Postmates is so enticing for me.  But going back to the goals I stated before, it’s not an option.  That being said, I like this idea more than you can imagine.  Which is why I order a lot of things online from Amazon.  It’s also why I’ve started considering ordering my groceries online.

The neat thing about Postmates is that they’re not specialized in anything except for logistics and delivery.  You can compare them to companies like Uber and Lyft. And it works the same way in terms of technology.  You place your order and a Postmates delivery driver is dispatched to bring that to you.  Postmates has been around for awhile and they serve a pretty large geographic area.  My guess is that it will continue to grow.  All that being said, if you’re an Apple Pay customer then you should definitely be checking out the service.  Even if it’s just for the month to see how it works.  You just might love it.
