The White House has just today officially unveiled its plans for a national secure internet ID program all so known as the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC). At first it will be voluntary. I am sure that will change over time.

The White House is saying this is not a national ID program of any sort, and it’s going to some length to play up the involvement of multiple credential providers
