Jay-z said in his some “30 Something” I don’t buy out the bar, I bought the night spot. That was his way of letting people know that he is not to be typecast into being anything but a money making machine. However no one said it better than Jay-Z himself on the song “Diamonds From Sierra Leone Remix” when he said I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man. He has constantly proven that he is to be taken seriously as in the business world. He has worked out deals with Samsung, Ace of Spades and now Aspiro AB. Aspiro AB is the parent company of Tidal. Tidal is a music streaming service that prides itself on being one of the first music streaming service that combined the high fidelity sound quality and HD music videos all curated.

The Norwegian company’s reviewing board has already reviewed the deal and is advising its shareholders to accept the offer. Sean Carter placed a bid of 464 million Krona (roughly $56 million) for the company. The deal breaks down as follows;

  • Jay-Z owns S. Carter Enterprises
  • S. Carter Enterprises owns Project Panther
  • Project Panther put in the bid for Aspiro of $56 Million
  • Aspiro owns Tidal and its reviewing board approves of deal

So while the headlines will read  Jay Z buys Tidal, that is just a tad bit misleading. With just over a half a million paying subscribers a Tidal is not quite competing with Spotify or Beats Music. I am sure Sean “Jay-Z” Carter will use his star power and other companies to raise Tidal’s profile. In no time the company should be a household name.
