I, myself have always struggled with how limiting a “simple” USB drive is.  It literally only works for one thing.  It’s a great device, however.  I’m not debating that, but it is kind of limiting don’t you think?  Enter the Silicon Power Mobile C5o. Not only does it come with three different storage options it is also equipped with USB Type-A, USB Micro-B and USB Type-C connectors.  How you ask? Well, it has the ability to connect from either end.  With one end, acting as two connectors.  It does sound kind of confusing, but have a look at the image above and it should make sense to you.

What is really cool about this is the ability to connect your smart device directly into your computer.  This will definitely minimize the number of cords you have in your house.  And the number that you have to carry around with you when you travel.  But let’s have a look at some of the specs for a moment.  The Type-A and Type-C have a transfer rate up to 5 Gbps, where the Micro-B has a transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps.

These devices are tiny.  I mean tiny.  I would likely lose one, or drop it somewhere.  Ask me how many times I’ve “lost” my Fitbit.  But the company says that they have been designed and constructed in a way to protect the connectors from damage.  The Micro-B connector is sheltered by the Type-A connector, where the Type-C connector is protected by a rubber cap.  What is interesting is that the rubber cap has been designed to be snapped open over 10,000 times.  I like the sounds of all of this.  Especially for someone like me who tends to be hard on these kinds of things.  Just because.  In addition, the drives are also built to protect against dust, water as well as vibration and can operate between temperatures of 0°C and 70°C.

I mentioned that it comes in three sizes – 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.  The 128 GB comes with additional software so you can make it compatible with mobile devices.  There is no indication of how much this will cost, but I feel like it’s going to be worth the investment.  Keep one of these in your laptop bag and you’re not going to need much else.  But the question I have for you, is whether or not you would actually use it?  Does this sound appealing to you?  To me, it is.  Well, the 128 GB sounds the most appealing.  Especially if you’re able to configure it so it’s compatible with your mobile device.  Because, why not?

Further, it’s going to help you if you need to transfer files between different types of computers.  Or computers that were created in different times, and therefore run on different technology.  As I often say, I like technology that simplifies my life.  If this is going to save me time, or having to buy something else in order to achieve my goal, I’m going to use this.  Why?  Because it’s simple.  The more time I have to spend trying to figure something out, or trying to configure something, the less I actually want to do it.  Maybe I’m lazy, but I don’t think I’m all that different from the average consumer.  We want what we want, when we want it.  And in a way that is convenient for us.  Plain and simple.
