There are somethings that just work. Sports Center at 11pm, a Christmas story on loop (thanks TBS) and Redsn0w. MuscleNerd had been suspected of defecting to the other side and for all the Jailbreaking community knows he still might. Although if he does he surely is going out with a parting gift for us all that jailbreak.
With the just released Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 there is no need to download the IPSW anymore. Those IPSW files are specific to the device you want to jailbreak. If you have more than one device it can be time consuming and I’ve found that at times the ones you download do not even work. While nothing comes close to the simplistic nature of using Comex’s JailbreakMe. Redsn0w has always been the most consistent and reliable jailbreak in the wild.
MuscleNerd’s Redsn0w now detects and automatically downloads the needed files from Apple’s servers that are required to perform the jailbreak. It even goes as far as storing those files in its cache, preventing the need to re-download for the purpose of carrying out the jailbreak again in the future.
Just a heads up though. If you have an iOS 5 device at the moment this new feature will not work for you. Once iOS 5 is out of beta, we should see this change. iPad 2 continues to be the dark horse here. It can still be jailbroken by jailbreakme.
Here’s the run down of how to use the update:
- Download the new Redsn0w 0.9.9b1
- Put your device in DFU mode
- Click on “Jailbreak” button (Redsn0w 0.9.9 will automatically fetch all files)
