Fortnite for iOS has been slowly rolling out to more and more people. Whether or not you’re lucky enough to play the game, or you are still waiting for your invitation, you might be wondering what it’s all about. It has become a phenomenon in a very short amount of time, so if you don’t know what it is, you need to learn fast. Which is why we’ve got all the information that you need to navigate the world that is Fortnite.
What is Fortnite?
Fortnite is not easy to describe but think of it this way – imagine that Minecraft and PlayerUnknown’s Battleground merged into one. That’s kind of what Fortnite is. It’s a third-person shooter that pits you against 99 other players in a battle for the last man standing. Not only that, but the game throws in elements of crafting, mining, and building.
How Can You Play?
The goal of Fortnite Battle Royale is to be the last person standing. As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, there might be as many as 99 other players so this isn’t an easy task. When you start the game, you’ll immediately fall from the sky with a wingsuit and a parachute and you’ll land somewhere on the giant island. Your task is to find items such as guns and ammunition in order to defend yourself and take out other players. The interesting part about the game is that the map gets smaller every couple of minutes. Which means you have to force players out of hiding in order to put an end to the game.
The downside is that you can only carry so many guns and items at the same time. Once you die, you’re out of the game, which means you’ll have to manage your equipment often, in order to give you the best chance of surviving.
When Can You Play It?
That’s a tough one. The beta version of Fortnite: Battle Royale launched to a select group of people on March 12, 2018. Epic Games (the developers) have said that they will be rolling out new invites to the beta version as time goes on. Which means, if you want to play, you’ll have to head over to the Fortnite Battle Royale website and enter your email. That will sign you up to receive an invite to play the game when more become available. At this point, no one actually knows when you will get an invite to try the game. But if you want to play, then this is your best chance to do just that.
Is There a Cost?
The short answer is no. You can download the game for free – including the console and PC versions. That said, there will likely be some in-app purchases. Since the game hasn’t launched yet, some of the details are a little fuzzy. In the console and PC versions, there are things like character skins and other cosmetic add-ons for purchase. Epic Games is saying that it will be the same as the console version so it’s likely that everything will remain the same (or similar) in the mobile version.
