Amazon is rumored to be getting into the phone business. Wait, you heard that one already? How about this one? Amazon may be working on its own video game system. It would not be a stretch for the company who already makes their own Android tablet. I am thinking they will make a system similar to OUYA.
The news broke about Amazon buying the game studio Double Helix after it was discovered that they held a joint recruiting event. Amazon has acquired the company for the talent and as well as for their IP portfolio. Double Helix is best known for the Xbox One exclusive launch title remake of Killer Instinct. Double Helix is also working on a remake of the 1989 arcade classic Strider. Amazon has shown it can take on the likes of Apple and Google in the tablet space but does it have what it takes to fight Sony and Microsoft in the game space? We may have an answer to that question soon rather than later.
Amazon released statement:
“Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovate games for customers.”
